Counselling Psychologist
Dr Marina Carbo Mascarell is a Chartered Counselling Psychologist with experience working in the NHS, charity organisations, and the private sector. In addition to her Bachelor's and Master's degrees, she holds a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology and is a registered member of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), British Psychological Society (BPS), British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and EuroPsy.
Drawing from knowledge in Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Humanistic approaches, Marina tailors therapy to your specific needs and goals. Some of the therapeutic approaches she offers include CBT-E (for eating disorders), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT). While some modalities can equip you with tools and techniques for addressing specific difficulties, others can gently support bringing emotional and relational patterns to awareness. Marina is open-minded and experienced in collaboratively exploring with you which approach may be most helpful for your circumstances and goals. She can support with various mental health difficulties, including but not limited to anxiety, depression, trauma, obsessive-compulsive disorder, relationship difficulties, self-esteem, perfectionism, burnout, and life transitions.
Building a strong therapeutic relationship is at the core of Marina’s approach to therapy. You can expect a safe, confidential and empathetic space where you can feel comfortable sharing your difficulties openly without fear of judgment. By walking alongside you, Marina will support you in understanding deeper levels of your unique experiences. Marina emphasises seeing you fully, acknowledging context, diversity and individuality. She understands the nuances of acculturation and finding stability in constant transition, particularly for people who have grown up between cultures or countries. She believes in fostering personal growth from within, recognising and trusting your abilities for positive change.
Marina is particularly interested in eating disorder treatment. She has published research in the British Journal of Psychiatry and trained at the South London and Maudsley Eating Disorder Service.
