Dr Zoë Chouliara is an awarded Consultant Counselling and Health Psychologist and Registered Psychotherapist/Counsellor with 14 years of clinical experience and 10 years of clinical supervisory experience. Zoë has been a clinical academic and Professor in Mental Health and she has practised clinically across different sectors. She worked in the NHS as a Clinical Health Psychologist, leading a specialist psychology service in Plastic surgery, in the Psychology Post COVID Syndrome Service as a Consultant, as well as in Psychodermatology as an honorary Practitioner Counselling Psychologist. She was named in the Top 100 of Nation’s Lifesavers in 2019 for her expertise and clinical work in childhood sexual abuse. Zoë is nationally and internationally known for her approach to mental health, for working with severe and/or complex presentations in the intersection between mental and physical health, and especially for her approach to recovering from adversity and her understanding of identity and self. She has worked as a trainer in professional training programmes for Counselling Psychologists and Counsellors and practised as a clinical supervisor.

Zoë is experienced in working with adults, adolescents and children. She also has extensive experience in working with couples and families. She provides assessment and therapeutic treatment for a range of common psychological issues such as anxiety, depression and trauma as well as, attachment difficulties, domestic abuse, narcissistic abuse, narcissistic traits, relationship issues, severe and/or complex presentations such as Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD) Child sexual abuse (CSA), chronic health conditions, appearance and identity. Zoë also provides psychological assessments for plastic surgery, gender transition and legal cases.

She specialises in working with complex psychological trauma including childhood abuse, neglect, and sexual abuse. Zoë also specialises in working with identity issues, including identity in recovering from abuse/narcissistic abuse and gender identity challenges/transgender. She also has a special interest in working clinically with people suffering from severe and / or complex appearance distress and is also very passionate about working with complex psychosomatic presentations, post-viral syndromes / long COVID.

Zoë works from a person-centred / positive psychology / integrated approach. She utilises systemic and compassion-focused techniques, CBT theories, as well as action/psychodrama and projection techniques. She delivers professional training and clinical supervision.
