She trained professionally in South Africa and is licenced as a Clinical Psychologist with the HPCSA. She holds a M.A. in Clinical Psychology and a Master's in Social Science (Research Psychology).
Cynthia has worked professionally in different settings (research, academic, private practice, and organisations) throughout her career, providing services to clients in person and virtually. She has worked globally across multiple cultures and geographies over the past three decades. She has been in private practice for the past twenty years and has provided extensive psychometrics interventions to a wide range of business clients, in addition to providing professional services to individuals requiring assistance with behaviour change and mental health wellness. Clients to whom she has provided clinical services include clients requiring assistance with traumatic stress incidents, PTSD, complex PTSD, anxiety, depression, sleep-related difficulties, eating disorders, work stress, adjustment disorders, bereavement, pain management, and relationship difficulties.
In her clinical practice, Cynthia applies an integrated therapeutic approach, drawing from a wide scientific psychology knowledge base to meet her client’s needs. She works systemically to understand the contexts of her clients. She has a special interest in how people perceive and think about their relationships, lives, and circumstances and how these perspectives influence their emotions, decisions, behaviours, and relationships. She draws on dialectical cognitive behavioural and psychodynamic models to guide her clinical therapeutic work. She maintains quite a pragmatic approach to supporting clients in finding solutions, developing strategies, and gaining new perspectives on problems. Her starting point is always the unique needs of the client. She works in a solution-focused way to assist clients in relieving distress and actualising their needs.
