Counselling Psychologist

Dr Carol Pickles is a highly skilled Counselling Psychologist with over 20 years of clinical experience. She is a Chartered Fellow of the British Psychological Society (BPS), and she is also registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Carol completed a BSc (Hons) in Psychology, a Postgraduate Diploma and a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology at the University of Teesside.

She trained in Humanistic therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Psychodynamic approaches whilst studying for her Doctorate. Since then, she has completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Group Analysis and has trained in Intensive Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). More recently, she completed training in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, Trauma (PTSD & CPTSD), Leadership, Schema-Focused therapy for personality difficulties, Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) and Mindfulness.

Carol has worked in the NHS Secondary Care and private practice since qualifying in 2004. She has also worked in a university-based counselling service. She provides assessment, formulation, therapy and supervision.

Carol is passionate about developing the therapeutic relationship within a safe, confidential, and containing space. Reflecting on her clients’ difficulties allows for exploration and gaining insight into the source of their difficulties. Carol is an integrative clinician drawing from a wide range of therapeutic approaches and evidence-based interventions (scientific and practice-based). She has a special interest in working with complex problems and unresolved trauma (childhood and developmental).
